About S.A.F.E.
South Atlantic Fishing Environmentalists - Founded by lifelong fishermen passionate about conservation
What is S.A.F.E.?
South Atlantic Fishing Environmentalists was founded by a group of lifelong fishermen with an everlasting passion for fishing and conservation. We have devoted our entire lives to fishing and truly care about the future of our fishery and our oceans.
As we witnessed drastic changes to our fishery through the years — declining stocks, shifting regulations that didn't reflect what we saw on the water, and a growing disconnect between policymakers and the people who actually fish — we knew we had to do something. S.A.F.E. was born out of frustration, passion, and a refusal to sit on the sidelines while our fisheries eroded.
What makes S.A.F.E. different from every other conservation group? We're not armchair environmentalists. Our founders are charter captains and tournament anglers with salt in their veins and decades of firsthand experience on South Atlantic waters. We've seen what healthy fisheries look like, and we've watched them change. That real-world knowledge — combined with rigorous science — is what drives every position we take and every fight we pick.
Our conservation initiatives focus on where it matters most: advocating for science-based catch limits, pushing back against regulations that ignore on-the-water reality, promoting responsible harvest practices, and educating the next generation of anglers on why stewardship isn't optional — it's survival. We work directly with fishery management councils, marine biologists, and fellow anglers to ensure the people closest to the resource have a seat at the table.
This matters because fishing isn't just a hobby for our community — it's a way of life, a livelihood, and a legacy. Without healthy fish stocks, charter captains lose their businesses, coastal economies suffer, and our kids inherit empty waters. S.A.F.E. exists to make sure that doesn't happen. We fish hard, we fight harder, and we won't stop until future generations can experience the same incredible fisheries we grew up on.
What We Do
Fish Hard, Conserve Harder
The members of S.A.F.E. fish, and we fish hard. Our mission at South Atlantic Fishing Environmentalists is to combine science with the experience of lifelong fishermen to ensure sustainable fisheries in the South Atlantic region.
Educate & Advocate
We educate and advocate to the agencies managing our fish stocks to create sensible fisheries regulations. We work with scientists, policymakers, and fellow anglers to find balanced solutions.
We have experienced amazing fisheries and will work tirelessly to ensure future generations have the opportunity to experience the same.
